Attention Hollywood and associated independent film houses:

Do not hire this man.

We understand that awkward, stuttering protagonists are in vogue. But it's getting a little out of hand. He was cute in Arrested Development and his role in Juno was small enough to get through safely. Year One should not have happened. And now the cancer is spreading to other young, awkward boys with messy hair who have a slight stutter. The plot and supporting actors of Zombieland was enough to distract from the awkward main character, but this really needs to stop. Give us more Bruce Campbells. Or how about a strong lead female?

Just think about it, all right?

[dw] ten - YAY!
HAPPY 46TH BIRTHDAY, DOCTOR WHO!!

The greatest man in the universe has been on the air for 46 years today, and I'd just like to say a word for the Doctor and how he's affected my life. Two years ago, he waltzed into my life with the episode Smith and Jones and my geekdom has never been the same. Ten was my first Doctor, but I've discovered my love for all these crazy incarnations. I have faith that Matt Smith will be brilliant, and I'm eagerly looking forward to seeing what he can do with the man who's captured the hearts of millions.

Who is your favorite Doctor? Was he your first? (I'm having a hard time picking a favorite, it's really between 4, 5, 9 and 10)
Do you have a favorite episode? (I have a soft spot for the Key to Time series, but I absolutely love "The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances")
Have a favorite companion? (oh man, Donna or Tegan, for sure. And also Jamie!)

Spread the Who-Love today! Introduce a friend who has never seen it! Rewatch your favorite or just pick up an episode you haven't seen in a while and snuggle in. LONG LIVE THE DOCTOR!!

[dw] four - :D
How long has it been since I posted here? Gosh, I guess I'm just not used to keeping a journal going (especially when Lost isn't around to squee about). But SOMEONE has been pestering me about it, and I figure this is the best way to keep in touch with everyone when I go abroad, so I'm starting it back up! Hopefully I still have some friends who read it or notice if I update D:

Anyway, YES! I AM GOING ABROAD! But I suppose this story starts earlier than signing up to study abroad. REWIND!

It's January 2009, and I'm in a writing tournament on deviantart.com. I've made a good friend there by the name of Ian, and he's a pretty cool dude for a Michigander. Anyway, he's in the same tourney as I am, and I've been helping him by proofreading his stuff. He's been telling me about another fellow who has been his proofreader, and that I'd probably really get along with said fellow. We met on Skype voice-chat when Ian introduced us; I pretty much freaked when I heard his British accent. I'd never really had a direct conversation with anyone English, so it was very rad. His name is James.

Fast forward, James and I have been friends for months (it's August now, in Flashbackland) and helping each other with writing, and I've decided I have the biggest crush on him in the world. After a few miscommunications that are kinda silly when I look back on 'em, we finally decide that we are internet dating on August 5th (I know because I kept the note~).

Now, I've never done the long-distance thing before, and it's already killing me. I can't imagine how it's gonna be killing me later, but it's already kicking my butt. One night (one of my friends' 21st birthdays, because I'd had a few) I was checking my email while skyping with James and I saw that study abroad opportunities were available for Winter Break in London. We decided that idea was freaking awesome, and I signed up immediately.

SO, now we are all caught up! I'm going abroad to London in 10 days (or 1 and 3/7 hebdomads, if you're into fractions), spending 12 days with the school and a week with James. My dad is all wound up about what's going to happen to me, and my Mamaw is sure that James is going to murder me, but I see this as a chance for my family to finally trust me to go off on my own. I don't know why they trust my little brother more than they trust me, and he was even in a country where they didn't speak English! I know I act like I'm 14 sometimes, but I'm a grown-up and I plan on showing them that I can handle myself.

I think I'll be using this as a place for posting London adventures. STAY TUNED!!

(plus, ohmigosh, guys, he is the most adorable thing ever. I can't wait, ten days is waaaaayyyyy too long)

The Doctor: When was the last time you smelt a flower, watched a sunset, ate a well-prepared meal?
Cyberleader: These things are irrelevant.
The Doctor: For some people, small, beautiful events is what life is all about!

I always loved this quote, because for me it IS all about the small things. Big things make me happy too, but it's always the way someone smiles at me or how good my coffee smells (amazing, by the way; Donkey Coffee is the elixir of life and I think it may actually be slowly replacing my blood) that makes me happy. A well-told joke, someone saying my hair looks nice, a great high-five—that's what life is all about. And yes, it had to be Doctor Who, because it has basically taken over my life.

Last one tomorrow! And then I might actually post some substantial things!

Trying to combat the blue of reading page after page of depressing FMyLife stories? Want to see what happens to NORMAL people every day? My Life if Average is probably one of the best websites ever created. I can't give you enough excuses, just spend all day reading through the stories. So worth it.

One of the funniest books I've read in a very long time. It reads like a travel guide to a fantasy land, with every cliche imaginable as selectable parts of your tour. And this lady knows what she's talking about, too, having written several well-known books before setting out to make them all part of one big cliche. And while it makes fun of the genre of fantasy, it's also brimming with love for the tried-and-true tropes, a nostalgic affection that bleeds through every page. Not only did it make me laugh, it made me want to write, and that's the best thing that a book can do. BUT DON'T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT~

secondly: tag eight people. don't refuse to do that. don't tag who tagged you. I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR RULES

I was watching Spongebob, and Plankton had just gotten foiled again in one of his attempts to steal a Krabby Patty.

And he said, "That's just not cricket!"

I did not hear it wrong. I had to do a double-take and was all "WHAAAAAAAAAATTT??" Surely it's just a saying or something, but I mean, THE DOCTOR said it.

... is... Is Plankton the Doctor?

• Post ten of any pictures currently on your hard drive that you think are self-expressive.
• NO CAPTIONS!!! It must be like we're speaking with images and we have to interpret your visual language just like we have to interpret your words.
• They must ALREADY be on your hard drive - no googling or flickr! They have to have been saved to your folders sometime in the past. They must be something you've saved there because it resonated with you for some reason.
• You do NOT have to answer any questions about any of your pictures if you don't want to. You can make them as mysterious as you like. Or you can explain them away as much as you like.

here there be odd photos )

Also, sorry for not being around for so long. I feel like a right douchebag D:

[dw] ten - OH YES!
So, I saw Angels and Demons today, and I gotta say it's muuuuuucccchhhhhhhh better than its predecessor The DaVinci Code despite its big brother's successes at both the box office and the bookstore. I always thought the prequel had a better story and better action than the one that hit it big, which is kinda sad because I absolutely loved Angels and Demons in both its literary and silver screen forms.

On that note:

EWAN MCGREGOR IN A PRIEST ROBE

HELL YEAH, I'D HIT THAT
I'D HIT IT SO HARD THAT THE NEXT PERSON TO PULL HIM OUT WOULD BE CROWNED KING OF ENGLAND.
I'D HIT THAT SO HARD THEY'D CALL US THE BIG BANG.
LIKE THE FIST OF AN ANGRY GOD.
NNNNGGGHHHHH

jeeeeezussssss that man is attractive. I don't care if wanting to do him in his priest robes is sacrelige, it would be SO FUGGIN' HOT. Can you IMAGINE?? "Oh, Mr. Camerlengo, you look a little hot under the dog collar." *extremely suggestive eyebrow raise* Oh man, this is bad, I think I have one of those things called a ~*FETISH*~. And not a very healthy one XD

Okay, jeez, I gotta calm down before I hurt myself. I thought I would share this lovely little nugget with you before I went to bed. Because it's such a pleasant thought for you all, I'm sure.
